Hair wound around ...

I love things are that based on rituals, fashion or crafts of yore, made modern.... These lovely wearable pieces of art by melanie bilenker are based on the Victorian craft of using hair as mementos, emotional souvenirs, mourning. Instead of grand events, she chooses charming small everyday moments.... making them of course, something grand in return.

Decisions, Decisions

I have never been good at making decisions

{via}

especially important ones.
I nearly had a breakdown just choosing a wedding venue
(I let my fiance choose)

and I have some really important decisions to make.
Sorry to be vague, I will share as soon as the decision is made.
For now, back to my decision making freak out.

Happy Wednesday!
half-way there!

All Our Lives We've Dreamed About It Just To Find That It Was Never Real

Like many of you I saw Inception last weekend.
I love a movie that lingers in your mind long after the credits roll,
that makes you think, discuss and develop theories.
Inception was amazing.

I won't say too much about it for anyone who has yet to see the film.

Last weekend was a random jumble
dancing, boston, BBQ, flip cup, friends

I also did a fair amount of shopping last week
here are some of the goods

LC Lauren Conrad Embellished Babydoll Dress

William Rast Savoy Skinny Jeans in Whiskey River

and a couple of books including the second one in the Steig Larsson series

Anyone else been doing some shopping?
Hope everyone is having a lovely week so far!

ps the title of this post is a lyric from the song Full Steam Ahead by David Gray

Crying over spilled...

The more I look at this, the more it touches me... Is it a heart ripped out ? A bird riddled with human maladies, stray beauty..elegantly rendered.

"What is it?" Doodle asked.

"It's a scarlet ibis," Daddy said.

Sadly, we all looked at the bird. How many miles had it traveled to die like this, in our yard, beneath the bleeding tree?

Doodle knelt beside the ibis. "I'm going to bury him."- j. Hurst.

Recipe: Taco Mac 'n Cheese

I first saw a recipe for Taco Mac here but knowing my Fiance would freak if I tried to put both cream cheese and sour cream in the same recipe (he hates both) I decided to change it up. This dish was so tasty and really filling.

Taco Mac 'n Cheese

Ingredients:
1 box elbow macaroni
Velveeta cheese, cut into cubes (12 - 16 ounces)
2 cups cheddar cheese
1 16 ounce jar of salsa
1 lb ground turkey
1 packet taco seasoning

Directions:
Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees. Cook the macaroni according to the instructions on the box. Meanwhile, cook the ground turkey in a pan, once browned, add about 1/3 cup water and the taco seasoning. Cook until most of the liquid is absorbed.

Drain the pasta and return to the pot. Add the velveeta cheese and stir until thoroughly melted. Add the ground turkey, salsa and 1 cup of the cheddar cheese. Mix well.

Pour into a casserole dish and top with the remaining cheddar cheese. Cook until cheese is melted or browned on top.

ENJOY!

What The Fug?! and Friday Funny!

This post is a 2-in-1 because it's Friday which is WTF?! day and over at my girl Kelly's blog it's Friday Funny day and I have something funny to share!

First things first, feast your eyes on this train wreck of lacy proportions compliments of ShopBop

This horrific combination of bell bottoms and bike shorts should never be worn in public, or worn period.
Maybe you could get away with this if it was the 60s and everyone was too busy tripping on LSD to notice?....or not.

also available in black...gag.

when something doesn't look flattering on the model chances are you shouldn't buy it.

Would YOU wear these?

and now for the funny (if those pants aren't funny enough for you)

Keeping Up With Kelly & Co

I saw this article yesterday

which is funny in itself (the Darth part not the robbery part)
but the funniest part is that E Setauket, NY is my hometown.

Happy Friday Lovelies!!

Denim Done Right

So last week I showed you an example of denim gone wrong but it got me thinking of ways to do it right!
I really like to demin "trend" and I say trend in quotes because denim never really wasn't trendy in my opinion but aaaanyway,
Here are some cute demin pieces to add bid of the blues to your wardrobe.

this super cute shirt dress from the gap would look fab with heels, sandals or boots!

these cute sandals are available at DSW and would look great with white jeans or a floral sundress.

this great shirt from J. Crew adds a touch of denim to any outfit!

While you might want to actually wear a shirt under it, this jacket is still fab!

this 7 For All Mankind denim vext via ShopBop looks great over a romper

This Be & D studded tote is a pretty funky way to rock the look.

This denim mini from Express is perfect for a night out!

Will YOU rock the denim trend in more ways than just jeans?

Happy Shopping!

Recipe: Pasta Primavera

Many Pasta Primavera recipes use a cream sauce but I liked this one because it's in a garlic sauce!
This makes it's so much healthier than some of the versions you will find and restaurants.
This meal was so fresh and so delicious, a great summer meal too.

This recipe comes from the Better Homes and Gardens 'New' Cook Book of Prizewinning Recipes.
A gift from my Parents for Christmas this book is just full of great recipes and cooking tips.

Available here

Herbed Pasta Primavera

Ingredients:
1 3/4 cups (8 ounces) dry multigrain or whole wheat penne pasta
8 ounces packaged, peeled baby carrots (cut lengthwise)
1 tbsp olive oil
1 1/2 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
1/2 cup sliced green onion or chopped onion
3/4 cup chicken broth (sub veggie broth to make it Vegan/Vegetarian)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium zucchini and/or yellow summer squash, halved lengthwise and sliced 1/4 inch thick
2 tbsps snipped fresh basil or 1 tsp dried, crushed basil
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted (we omitted this)
Grated parmesan cheese
cracked black pepper

Directions:
1. Cooks pasta according to package instructions; drain. Return to hot saucepan; cover and keep warm.
2. Meanwhile, in a large skillet cook and stir carrots in hot olive oil for 5 minutes. Add green beans, onion, broth and garlic. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in squash. Simmer, uncovered, for 4 to 5 minutes or until vegetables are crisp-tender, stirring occasionally.
3. Toss vegetable mixture, basil, and salt with pasta. Sprinkle with almonds, cheese and pepper. (if desired).

A 1 3/4 cup serving has less than 300 calories! Yum!

Enjoy!
