Yeah for the portables, but Conroe for the desktop.
But Merom uses the same socket as Core Duos, and Conroe uses a different socket. So Conroe won't fit in your iMac.

We were discussing this a few threads down the front page.
Doubt the MacPro will be dead, but the market for it will shrivel up very badly unless some universal need for extreme processing is manufactured. With current processing speeds and ThunderBolt accessories, an iMac can become a full pro machine for all sorts of jobs that don't need to work titanic piles of data.
This Pro I purchased in early 2007 is still excellent. It will last until 2014 or beyond, and by that point I will probably go with an iMac. Today's iMacs are already faster than this tower in most ways.
Heck, my new 2.2 i7 quad MacBook Pro beats every one of the last Mac Pro revisions. The Mac Pro line is more and more for a very specialized audience�those who need the utmost performance and expansion (2-3 video cards, an extra I/O card, 4x SSD drives for speed + space for high end production work...
But for me, this is the fastest Mac I have ever touched. Way faster than the old 27" i5 I was using.
It's very much *not* about the speed nowadays. I worked from an 11" MacBook Air for a few weeks (to see if I could work on a 1.8 Ghz Core 2 Duo), and if it weren't for my work in Aperture, I would've gotten a 13" MacBook Air and been done with everything!
(Instead, I'm staying with a 15" MBP for the foreseeable future).

Hey, they could build a little hub with a cord that plugs into the TB port and provide a few USB 1,2,3 ports, maybe a firewire port, plus a glowing Apple logo on top and call it an iHub.

I want to play music from iTunes on my Mac as the source, and multiple airplay devices as the target. Currently I can only play to Airport Expresses and Apple TVs (and upcoming Airplay certified speakers). I want Apple to include all iOS devices to that list of target devices.
As mentioned multiple times in this thread: Airfoil
Airfoil runs on your Mac, Airfoil Speakers on your iOS devices. Start Airfoil Speakers (which is a free app) on your iOS devices and then select inside Airfoil on the Mac on which devices you want your sound being played. You can let it play on multiple devices at the same time and the app does a decent job of synchronising the sound. In addition to iOS devices any Airport Expresses and Apple TVs can also be selected. And you can select to broadcast the sound of individual applications on the Mac only (eg, iTunes only to avoid other system sounds being transmitted).
Or, for simpler needs, just enable Home Sharing in iTunes and play your Mac's iTunes content directly from your iOS device.

Since we are on the eve of the announcement, I thought I'd give my 2 cents. :)
I hoping for downloadable movies to own at either $9.99 or $14.99 and in high definition. It might be in 720P as a download service just can't compete with Netflix or walking to your friendly neighbourhood DVD rental store. And because the movies are in H.264, the download of HD movies should not take any more time than regular DVD, although if they released movies in 480P, it wouldn't be too bad, either, although with DRM and the time to download, doesn't make it competitive against DVD, plus you don't get the fancy packaging or the hard-disc copy.

I don't think cops here even do this. I take it a checkpoint stops all cars? I've never seen that in my decades in MN. We have frequent notices (last one was on 3/17) on our highway info signs that say "Increased DUI patrol" or similar, no actual checkpoints.

I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often. Applestores must be filled with cash. I would think one would be a bit easier to rob than a bank.

You do not have to have a credit card you can have a debit card and pay with that.... cash has no place in retail anymore. This would solve a hell of a lot of hold up issues.
The only people who need to deal in cash are drug dealers.

Apple still doesn't have upload to a cloud or wireless syncing, and Windows Phone does. 25 GB free sky drive, as well as a beautiful hub where you choose what to access at a glance.

I've just finish chatting with a person on the apple website. She told me that I can use the new imac (21 and 27") thunderbold input to use the imac as an external display. Only if it comes from a thunderbolt output (like an macbook pro for exemple).
Huh, wonder if that means that they wouldn't work as external displays with my late 2008 MBP mini-display port.

Well $349 is a lot better price than the $600 when the 60 gig iPod Photo came out two years ago.

After releasing updates to every iPod product line at Tuesday's Showtime event he left a very big opening for a major product announcement between now and the holidays. Steve said "I hope this gives you a feeling for what we've got lined up for this holiday season."
Steve Jobs chooses his words very carefully. If Apple's holiday line-up was now complete - he would have said so emphatically.
That is exactly what I was thinking. I'm almost certain that Santa has got one more thing in his bag for Christmas.
1) Isn't Steve Jobs on record saying that a phone is the one thing that you don't have to convince a consumer to carry in their pocket? As in: "the future of the iPod is cell phone integration."
2) Anyone who listened to Apple's last quarter financial results call jumped when they got to talking about phones - they practically came out and said they were working on one, and trying to get it to market asap.
3) Apple has been consistently impeccable at timing products to hit the market at the right time (Macbooks for graduation/back to school, new ipod releases for fall/christmas). They know Christmas is the time to release this.
4) The buzz over this has been growing to deafening levels both from the analysts and the nerds.
Especially with Steve's allusion to "more to come before Christmas", I'm betting on shiny new iPhones for Christmas.
