I sure hope iPhone 5 gets a 8 megapixel camera no matter who makes it...

just to shut up these iPhone 4 users who want minimal upgrade for iPhone 5 because their contracts aren't up and still want their phones to look up to date

Did the "Gapless Determination" detect your The Wall album or did you, like me, have to set the Gapless Album tag yourself...?It detected on its own.

Looks really hot BUT where is EQ?, i live by this thing, now i can no longer find it. Whats up?It's listed under "view"

I think the question of fault is moot, if there is a security problem it needs to be fixed, and if it is a simple fix, that happens before any real life security problems occur, then all the better! What I wonder is are macbooks the only macs with the issue, or only intel macs with wireless cards, or all models using a wireless card. -for example would my powerbook g4 be vulnerable.

    hmm...

This is fantastic, fantastic news! It is so so so cool, and its really made my day. I have been waiting for the imac update and glad that it came around this time. I have been waiting since March and it has been agonising.

Congratulations for those who have been waiting for one. The time has come. Im sure all apple revisions will come in due course, perhaps in time for leopard when it comes out.

Bring on the ipods next week.

    Macrumours have been spot on!

The light cut of the Myriad font is probably used to indicate thin/light weight - as is the reference to air. I suspect that it's about the sub-notebook, which will be thinner than anything else on the market.

    Other possibilities:

    1. Inflight entertainment system - Dock connectors in every seat. iTunes/iPhone style touch interface in seatback displays - deal with American Airlines/British Airways/One World Alliance.

    2. "Cloud" services - something big like making .Mac free and re-branding it to attract PC / iTunes / iPhone users

The current camera on the iPhone 4 is stellar IMO and many others... an equal 8MP camera would be even better....

    Opinions are good things huh....

my iphone produces some ok photos but also produces a large volume of absolute shite ones.

The higher mp may not mean muhc, but hopefully they will be improving the optics/sensor while at it. The nokia n8 may be a fugly symbian^3 abomination, but the sensor combined with the carl zeiss optics produces some really nice photos, even in low light.

You can also use the hdmi out for flipping throuhg photos, and not just the fakin stupid slideshow like the hdmi adapter on the iphone4

It would be great if Apple offered the ability to stream 1080i content wirelessly to my home theater, but that's not feasible yet, is it?

It would be thrilling if Apple released this ultraportable with a docking station computer. I'd be all over that, but it has nothing to do with being "in the air."

It would be amazing if Apple announced some kind of joint venture with Google to offer nationwide WIFI, but that's nowhere near being feasible.

    I thought no one cared...

No one cared until the X-Factor show made the theme for last week's songs "The Beatles". Suddenly millions of UK TV viewers cared. The long "Beatles now on iTunes" adverts aired in the breaks just increased the profile.

I think Mac sales are directly tied to the Halo affect of the iOS devices. The more they sell there, the more people open up to Mac as an alternative. With Lion having more iOS like interfaces, it will make it even more natural for new customers.

IMO it's a combination of many things.

Yes, the idevices, but then comes word of mouth. Nothing is more powerful than when you have a friend or colleague who shows you how easily everything works and integrates.

The learning curve of a Mac is also not steep.

Overall I think the market for non professional users will shift away from desktop machines as the "books" become more and more powerful.

    Plus their new advertising slogan

All you need is a Mac and you'll never go back!

It's cumbersome, hardly ideal, and defeats the purpose.

Admittedly, running in emulation is slow and cumbersome, but the simple fact is that we can, and PC users can't. Just one of those things to counter the 'Windows can do so much more' argument.

I don't believe that argument, but hey, my Mac can run Windows (acceptably), so it is not a point of contention any more.

For most tasks, we have native software, but for the very rare occasion when something can not be done natively, it can still be done.

The problem with Apple simple. They have no enterprise strategy. They have no muscle to get developers to begin including Macs in custom software solutions, database integration, and web-services compatibility. Apple is totally missing the point, and doesn't understand the place of the computer in business and (this is the sad one) education.

Ummmm....developers? Developers are flocking to OSX, because it gives a good UNIX environment, with a good user experience. I see more geeks at more non-Mac conventions with iBooks and TiBooks every time I go.

Databases...you haven't been paying attention! Sybase, Oracle 9i, MySQL, PostGreSQL, which db were you looking for?
    http://developer.apple.com/server/

Web services...my machine is running Tomcat, apache, php/mysql, and Webobjects servers. ASP is available for UNIX, which means an apache module could prolly be compiled for Mac. Which services did you want? .net? passport?

Businesses...businesses are slow to change, but I have seen increased interest in Apple (since OSX) for the first time in a decade.

So, Apple has the Xserve, right? Huge dismal failure for them. They are giving hardware to Universities, but they're not leveraging their weight to get software and datablase companies on board to write enterprise-wide server-based applications. A good example: some universities are in the process of migrating all their research to secure server farms, and interconnecting them nationwide to increase the pool of information available to researchers. This means that different applications, different file types, and different methods of gathering that information (such as a custom-written piece of software that, say, reads indentity cards or thumb-print records) need to become recognizeable, retrieveable, and editable from any location. Or what if libraries wanted to interconnect, trade data, and allow data to be submitted by individual users (such as a publication written by an independent party).

Xserve adoption will be slow, and the product needs to be excellent to gain share. Thankfully, I, and many many reviewers, think it is.

However, your argument about data migration is silly, as data is accessed through a pipe (odbc, jdbc, etc.) and Mac OSX has a nice set of pipes. You can put a GUI on a pipe and call it an app, but all it does it form a query which gets fed to a stored proc and echo the data.

It can be done now via the command line, which means easily via an app. With data, the 'server based app' is a collection of stored procs, and the client (a browser, Sherlock, a custom client, etc.) makes it pretty.

Furthermore, the developers I mention above, are making sure we get many good browsers, and the browser will be the path to data (hell, it already is).

These are great examples of how the world is becoming more interdependent, and the personal computer is becoming merely a gateway to more information, applications and services.

    Affirms my point above...

it's really funny to read those posts now. They should be infamous. I wouldn't want to be the one who posted that.

Heh, yeah. I especially love all the posts about how it was a huge mistake for Apple to get into the mp3 player market (that the iPod would die a quick death and be a colossal failure).

I think that is the problem when we buy so much into the speculation and hype - Apple releases something that, on the surface, is boring (i.e. "WTF?!?!?!? It's just an MP3 player and not some revolutionary new device?!!?!?!?"), but which has a much greater chance of success than some of the more out there stuff we want them to do. As a former Newton user, for example, I would be ecstatic if Apple did release a Newton 3000 or something, but I also realize that there is a good reason they aren't doing that - there still just doesn't seem to be a widespread market for PDA's at this point. So an MP3 player might be boring, but it turned out to be a very smart move for Apple.

No thanks - 3D gives me headaches.

    Agreed, can't stand 3D.

I'd rather have a retina display than an element that gives me more grief. Well, hopefully this rumor won't turn out to be true > or if it does, maybe it could be a built to order option.

Or like the poster above said, if you can switch it off, then maybe I'll roll with it. Unless, of course, this will raise the price of the iPad and/or the content itself.

I'm seriously amazed that ANYONE is defending Apple here.

    w00master
I'll make this point again... How is what Apple is doing any different than what Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony do with approvals for applications on their devices? If anything, Apple should be commended for giving everyone access to the development environment at a significantly reduced cost. The reason for the approval process is clear: they want to do QA before the product is released because if something bad happens, every news organization will feature headlines about it for a week.
