Hippie Chic

So I know the boho style became popular a couple of years ago (has it been that long, really?) and peasant shirts and such have wavered in popularity over the years, sometimes in and sometimes out of style. I personally lump all those styles into one fabulous catergory that I call Hippie Chic. I know it's a gross generalization since boho can be considered soooo different, but to me it's hippie style.

Now don't get me wrong, I do like the boho look and all that, I just can't get away with wearing most of it though. Some of the baggie oversized looks just don't work with my not-so-dainty bone structure. I have very broad shoulders and some of those things would just make me look like a linebacker.

Well anyway, I selected a few looks that I consider Hippie Chic and that I love and I'm going to share them with you lovely people!!

When I think 'Hippie' I automatically think of Free People. They have a lot of eclectic pieces there, here are a few looks I picked out:

and no look is complete without a headband:

Another great place to shop this look is Anthropologie.

I love these:

And Urban Outfitters of course!

And CB2 has some cute throw pillows to add that Hippie Chic look to your home!

And there's always Nicole Richie's House of Harlow 1960 line! Super cute.
I hope you like!

Happy Shopping and Happy Monday!!

My Weekend: In The Christmas Spirit

We went a little Christmas crazy this weekend!

Despite that fact that we won't be together on Christmas morning (I'll be "home" with my Fam in NY) we got our very own Christmas tree this weekend! It's 6 feet tall and totally fake. It came with multi-colored lights and we got some fun colored ornaments to decorate it with. We also hung candy canes all over (not in picture) and a big light up star on top! Isn't it adorable?

We also went to Yankee Candle and got three holiday themed candles, boy are those things expensive! Good thing they were buy 2 get one free. We got Red Berry & Cedar, Jack Frost (minty smell) and Sparkling Cinnamon. The Red Berry & Cedar is my fav so far, it really smells like Christmas.

On Saturday night our Town had their annual Holiday Stroll. Basically TONS of people gather and the close downtown, everyone strolls along to a big tree and they have a tree lighting. Some local shops stay open, restaurants serve food and drinks and there's live music and lots of other stuff going on. It was my first time going and I'm glad we did. It was a lot of fun and really festive. Here's me and two of my Girlfriends in front of the Town tree and me and the Boyfriend in front of some ice scuptures:

Definitely had to break out the winter parka and gloves for this weekend! And to top off our apparantly Christmas themed weekend we went to see A Christmas Carol. The new Jim Carry animated one. It was an interesting take on an old classic. I have a few other Christmas movies I prefer that totally get me in the spirit. Here are my top 5:
Love Actually
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer (original)
It's A Wonderful Life
Elf
and Frosty The Snowman
OK and a 6th, The Santa Clause, it cracks me up.

I hope everyone else is getting into the Holiday spirit! This week I will be focusing all my attention on my vacation that begins Friday. I'll be making many lists of what to pack, what to still get, what to bring on the plane, what to put in the safe deposit box, a list for the person feeding our cats....sheesh. I always feel so unprepared before trips and drive myself crazy triple-checking everything. It's probably something I get from my Dad, he was always very detailed with out family vacations.

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!

Changeling...

For those of you who've been posting it up with me on facebook, I apologize for the disappearing trick! As the days get cooler and the daily worries build with the "slow season" I have a growing sense of preservation naturally packing on. I've focused my energies more keenly toward my family and home.... so off goes casual conversation with strangers ( beloved though some are! ) I might even pick up the phone!

New Year is coming soon... sooner than last year and sooner still than the year before !

...Which leads me to one of my 2009's favorite photo picks. I've seen thousands of images this year and this one sticks with me.. The best things seem to be simple yet profound, ugly yet beautiful reflecting of course, what else but our own nature!

Here's the RED FOX honored with humble berries in what appears at first to be merely a sound slumber.. Kudos to the photographer Kimbrini for what she calls " Un Taxidermy".

I love what she did with blades of grass and ice here..... beautiful!

I was never beautiful.
I learned by heart the octaves
of grief and the peculiar phrases
of a man's desires. Mine was the chord
seldom struck; oh they gave me
an arm to walk
over the esplanade. I walked
with the arm. They stood
near the edge, watching,
humming the ruse of the borrowed car
and from their pockets rose the petite chanson
of the hungry key. I walked on alone
and the water came, touched my feet
and was gone...

P.S...

I am beyond obsessed with this song right now. It made me cry the first time I heard it (although I cry a lot so that might not be saying much haha). It's just so so pretty. And I love Taylor Swift.

Vacation Here I Come

So next week we are going on vacation. I don't think I have mentioned this before. We are leaving next Friday for Miami and then boarding a cruise ship for the next 7 days!

I cannot wait.

My Boyfriend and I are both so excited. He said his last real vacation was to Florida when he was little! Mine was...I'm actually not sure haha. I have been on many trips but nothing like a real vacation, I guess it would be when I went to Puerto Rico in like, 2003? SIX years ago!! My goodness. No wonder we are both so excited for this vaca.

I am going to start packing soon, I hope all my summer clothes still fit me haha! Especially after the Thanksgiving feast. Sheesh, putting on a bathing suit again is scary. We will be cruising the Eastern Caribbean with our friends Ally and Steve. They are both just as excited as we are. So while I will continue to post as I am inspired from now until next Thursday, you may not hear from me after that until I return. I am not planning to bring along my laptop.

Has anyone out there been on a cruise? any tips for us?

This is our ship :)

Happy Thanksgiving

to everyone! Today is not just about a big turkey dinner, it's also about being surrounded by the ones you love and giving thanks. I've notice a lot of other bloggers with Thanksgiving posts already but I am going to join in the fun and share with you all.

Today I am thankful for...

My Wonderful Parents

and siblings

The roof over my head

My job

My college education

Having had the opportunity to travel

My Friends

That I can provide for myself

My Boyfriend

For everyone who has stood by me
and helped me through hard times

The material items I have been lucky enough to afford

For Freedom and Democracy

For music and the arts

For all the American Soldiers who gave their lives so we could live ours.

For justice and truth

For history and culture

and so many other things it would  be impossible to list them all.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

RAPID FIRE MEMORY TWITCH

Daylight stood with one leg in the dark.
A boy swung himself through his unzippered jacket
to work his feet up. Then monkey-handed he headed
for a part of the branch he was heavier than
and bobbed there like a hunk of suet.
But with girls it was different: you came to a place
where the weight of your fear equaled
the pull of going up, and that was where you stayed.
Your crotch was the anchor you sunk
hard on a limb, and it was enough
to stay hidden in a bonnet of dead leaves
until your mother called your name:
once, twice, her vowelings broke into two notes
that came to you as from whole continents away...

have a good week.
