Come Sail your ships around me......

THE HOSTESS w/ Jessi

A friend of mine ( jim, hi) introduced Jessi and I.....she is so lovely and an illustrator at large,

Love her.

She's such a good silent film actress...

For this I also have the sweet bon bon sugar plum dress maker Pricilla Dawn provide the wardrobe. XX!!

I used my gran's old silver tea set here, and to answer the age old question, yes, cupcakes ARE heavy when stacked!

Since the dress is so sweet I had to toss in a bit-o-creep. I created a plumtastic and Fuschia dog patch eye for the make up - a bramble of red locks and a bread braid crown.

Later, we went onto a vista and Jessi danced around freaking out the squares with my pink ship while i lazed in the street...so much blue sky ! The day was a real pleasure...

To see images, look in candids and ( obviously) in photos for the ''hostess'' series within my site below.

As always

Best to you,

New Trend In 2007 - Alternative Hairstyle

Alternative hairstyles are ones that stand apart from fashionable, conventional and classic hairstyles. They are best described as unusual, daring, bright, fun, avante-garde, geometric and exaggerated- with elements of punk.

If you want to feel free of fashion, then go for it. Or, if you want to bolster your marketing campaign, then an alternative hairstyle may be a good choice. But beware because most short styles will take some time to grow out, and wild colors may damage your hair (particulary when stripped out or re-colored).

Big and Bold was the main idea for this look. Jagged cut layers gave this hairstyle plenty of texture and attitude, while the vibrant color makes it more for the brave.

A Little Addition Goes A Long Way

So I would not consider myself a gifted interior decorator, I think do we did a pretty OK job on the decor in our apartment but I always thought it was lacking a little in some areas, specifically our dining area.

I have spend MONTHS searching stores like Pier 1, Homegoods, Ikea and local furniture stores for the perfect sideboard or buffet but with no luck. It seemd most of the nicer pieces were over $400, just a bit out of my budget and the cheaper ones were assembly required which usually translates to not sturdy.

So finally I browsed Craigslist.
And found the perfect piece for our apartment. It's originally from Pier 1 so it's real wood and very sturdy.

It was perfect in every single way and when we brought it home last night and put it in the dining room I swear it transformed the whole space.

What a difference!

Before

After!

I just love it, what do you think?!

Long hairstyles are usually thought of being the only ones to make you look feminine and beautiful. However, women like Rihanna have made us see that short hair, styles right, can bring out the best in us. Going from long hair to short hair is a bold choice. If you decide to take this step, your look will be totally diffrent and so will be your personality. Another advantage is that short hair is so much easier to take care of, easier to style and maintain. You can choose from a wide range of short hairstyles like messy styles, boy cuts or even short hair with bangs.

Sweet & Sexy Sundresses

Since Spring is in full swing and summer is right around the corner I have sundresses on the brain. And since my Engagement party in June is a backyard party I am on the hunt for a cute new sundress to wear. I have been browsing online and I'm loving some of the colorful styles out there. Here are some of my favs.

Homegrown dress from Anthro

Floral dress from Banana Republic

Patterned dress by Tbags available at Shopbop

Cherry Blossom dress by Juicy also at Shopbop

Silk dress by Ann Taylor

They're all so pretty it's going to be a tough choice! I am planning to find a dress that goes well with my cute Old Navy wedges.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend lovelies!

Ana Juan

Speaking of illustrators ..... I adore Ana!

First found her through the children's book, Frida, a life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo with text by Jonah Winter. I even have her frida illustration tattooed on my inner arm with a banner reading..what else...." once upon a time". So, clearly her visions have a hold on me.

Her work has been featured all over the world notably including, the New Yorker. Her style, Naïve... bold, yet soft, has that slightly dark fairytale narrative...just lovely.

She ventures into dolls, wood, paper..well, you can look for yourself at her adorable site here

Although I appreciate the beauty of dolls and the work that goes into them, I'm not a collector...yet I wouldn't mind at all to own Ana's Snow white...it's not a typical disney influenced snow white you see so often...it's digital print on cotton with removable clothes ..limited to 30. i love it! e-mail me at darlatea@gmail.com if you want to ship her to me ;0) Only 300.00 !
A steal ! ( i love that it's in grey tones).. The doll is based on the book "snow white" ( delightfully Gorey-ish) for which she provided illustration.

Anyway, Ana resides in Madrid Spain and has agreed to allow me to take her portrait if I make it out there next year!

Now..where did my suitcase go?.....right... humming by the door, always.

A truth we've suspected all along....

Rats laugh when tickled.

Scientists are finding there is a long evolutionary trail to our odd noises of amusement, and the latest proof comes from ticklish rats.

You've probably never heard a rat laugh, and there's a good reason.

Jaak Panksepp, of Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and his students found that the rodents emit gleeful "chirps" when playing, but only at ultrasonic tones five times higher than the human ear can hear. Once Panksepp hooked up an ultrasonic detector to listen in on rats in his lab and started tickling the animals, he realized the effect on them was dramatic.

"We used our hands as if they were playmates and pounced and tickled the rats with our fingers. The chirping sounds were out of sight, just out of sight," said Panksepp, who wrote about the studies in this week's issue of the journal Science. "The animals became bonded to you and came back for more. Every possible measure of whether they like it shows yes, they love it."

Not only did the rats respond instantly to the tickling, after awhile, they reacted the way a child often does before a tickling hand even reaches them.

Boys And Their Toys

When we were looking for a new place to move to last year we were deciding between our current apartment and a townhome. The appeal of the townhome was that they allowed gas grills, but they didn't have all of the amenities that our current complex has like the fitness center, pool, covered parking and more. Ryan thought he would have to give up his dreams of grilling when we moved and trust me I have heard plenty of complaining about it! He was adament about finding a way to grill and of course, he found one.
Last night we went to Lowes and purchased an electric grill.

Of course nothing beats the flame kissed taste of grilled meat but this little baby did a pretty impressive job!
I can see that our Summer is going to be full of grilling and I'm kind of excited because in my mind that's what summer is all about! Last night we made skewers with steak tips, peppers and onions and they were delish!

Before

and voila!

And since Ryan got his grill, I get my new patio furniture from CB2!!

Eeeeeeeee! Can't wait!

Grilling definitely says "Summer" to me, what says Summer to you?

Scott MacIntyre's Curly Hairstyle 2010

 Scott MacIntyre's American Idol Haircut

Scott is thinning a bit on top, so I think he's trying to compensate for it by going with a longer style

Male curly hairstyle 2009

this is giving the style a stringy, unhealthy look. The entire cut would look better shorter, with a bit more of a taper on the sides and back. A light application of Pomade or Styling Cream will help keep the curl together and looking healthy.

Long Island Weekend Take Two, This Time With Less Wine

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!
Remember me?
I don't know how you ladies & gents who travel for work on a weekly basis do it because after three consecutive weekends of travel I am exhausted!

Not only am I exhausted but my apartment is a mess and I'm generally behind in life.
At the moment I am super excited that I have no plans on Saturday so I can clean the house and get caught up on everything. So anyway, sorry for the absence, it's hard to balance, life, work, travel and blog all at once, ya know?

Last weekend was pretty fabulous though. Ryan and I headed to my hometown of Setauket, NY to spend time with my Parents and look at wedding venues. It was a mixture of exciting, stressful and emotional all in one. We saw four lovely places and we are currently deciding between our two favorites. All of the venues are beautiful in their own way so it's a really really hard decision.

We are getting married in September of 2011 and our ceremony will be at my Church, the reception will follow....somewhere haha.

My Church

We had a chance to wander around during our visit and spent Saturday walking around Port Jefferson which is a lovely harborside town. We walked along East Main Street which is so charming with old school telephone booths and historic buildings. We got some gelato and some rainbow italian ices at Ralph's.

We also walked around the Mill Pond in Setauket. It's where we plan to take some photos after our wedding ceremony because it's so pretty and peaceful.

And don't laugh but my Mom made me try on her Victorian style wedding gown from 1981.

No, I will not be wearing it but I might re-use the veil if it matches my gown. The whole weekend was nice and spending time with my Parents is always so great. Living away from my Fam can sure suck sometimes.

I hope everyone is having a lovely week so far!
