Evidently not too many folks watched all the segments from yesterday's post about FCP in one of the NAB discussions. Towards the end of that discussion, the biz dev guy from 3ality described a demo at Intel he attended. Recalling (a little fuzzy on this) he said Intel had set up a processor in one location, and the processors memory in another location ONE MILE DISTANT connected by ThBolt. They then ran some cpu/memory intensive demo. He was blow away that it ran super fast. Try doing that with USB.
All I can say is, "Thank God." Near term I get rid of tons of cables -- I have seven attached to my MBP on my desktop right now (external monitor, FW800 for external drive, Ethernet, FW400 for scanner, USB for keyboard, USB for printer, and audio out to external speakers). Long-term it is possible Thunderbolt will enable changes we can't envision right now.
My only issue is the name "Thunderbolt" and the weird lightening bolt (that to date has always meant "touch this an you die from electrocution"). Light Peak was nearly perfect IMHO. Oh well, I'm guessing some committee group came up with this.

This is the absolute worst winter in the New England states ... I am disenchanted by any more snow and look forward to some warmth...
I keep going back to this iris ... the rich colors of spring popping out against the monotone stalks that feels so much like winter. I'm really glad you took the extra effort to keep the hint of color in the back flower as well. My 3" high daffodils were buried in 8" of snow on Thursday. It's all gone now, but I, too, and waiting for spring to arrive in New Hampshire!

I still don't get the value of wireless in a music player--not in actual practice (battery life and added bulk, vs. the need to plug in to charge, which naturally takes longer than synching anyway).
But whatever it is, I think its chances will depend a lot on whether it can be as slim and light as an iPod, and the same elegant ease-of-use as iTunes and iPod.
Wireless music players is the future but also a problem again for the music industry. Taken the popularity of the iPod you would be able to have acces to over a 1000 music librarys in a small city. You would be able get a new network next to the internet dedicated to wireless music and videos. This all if Apple doesn't lock those things out but surely hacks would be created to make this possible.
Filesharing will move from the internet to the street. I see a lot of things possible with wireless music players. For good and bad but it will definately change the way we listen to music again.

Hmmm. Can't get iPad updated, says that not compatible with the build.
Nice.
Too tired to even troubleshoot longer.
But for anyone who wants to give me a tip.
I restarted both iPad and iMac.
Deleted and Re downloaded ipsw
Hard reset iPad
No dice. Never JB btw.
Is iTunes up-to-date?

Another one from my outing last week. I got some nice shots yesterday, but I'm still working on editing them. I tried avoiding posting this one, but ran out of others. While I am happy with it for myself, I know it is rather (ok, very) cliche to post a duck shot ;)

I chose you, Plutonius, cause I liked the sound of your screen name. It reminds me of a Roman name. There is no mysterious protecting of someone else. On day one the voting is pretty much a crap shoot, and unfortunately, it looks like your number came up.
Possibly but it looks like your vote was to protect either nies or eldiablojoe.

Pretty soon we'll be able to change the appearance of everything just like in Windows. I sure hope they invest many more man-years in the development of this technology.
(I get upset at least once a month because I can't change the appearance of something in SL, but this is a bit much. I guess they are running out of things for people to do. Time to thin the herd.)

Both AAC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Audio_Coding#Licensing_and_patents) and MP3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3#Licensing_and_patent_issues) have licensing fees. It's also a complete mess on the MP3 licensing side.
Great read. Thank you for the links! Kind of blows the open and free notion out of the water.

Maybe I'm just picky, but it looks like it might be TOO thin! Like I preferred the 3rd gen iPod touches because they seemed to be the best thickness, the 4th gen took it too far and having the volume and lock buttons on the curve felt weird and not as nice :/
I'll still buy it though lol.

I've started with <./fah6 -bigadv -smp 16 -local> after getting rid of the unit it was working on, it is finally using all 16 cores now, had only been using 8. It doesn't look like it's doing anything more strenuous.

yeah that's not a bigadv unit. i think you have to download the correct binary before you can use the -bigadv flag (i think). just take a look at stanford's web page for instructions.
This is not a bigadv unit... The fastest machines out there do a frame in 22 mins...
PS: I am folding on an air, good for 800PPD...
really? it just seems like the air would really overheat. is it usable at all while folding?

I should have elaborated in my first post but regardless, his reply was uncalled for.

He's doing very well. If you're interested in all of the details, we did setup a Caring Bridge page (http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/blakerebelein) for him.

Hmmmm . . .
Should Google be more excited about how many copies of Android it has sold . . . .
Or Apple about how many copies of the iPhone it has sold ?
(little hint, Google isn't selling the Android OS)
Whlst Google doesn't sell Android OS, it does licence the closed source Google apps to third parties who want them. Without the google apps they wouldn't ship with Android Market, GMail, Google maps e.t.c. I'd assume they get a licensing fee for including the GApps.

No, that is not Adware. Adware is a program that is installed *on your computer*, so it can launch windows whenever it wants.
I think he's saying that LimeWire is opening the popups when no browser window is open. That's not "adware" in the sense in which we're talking about, which is a hidden background program that opens browser windows randomly no matter what application you're running.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL....
Does this also mean that T-Mobile users are stuck with only the white one?
I say get one with the lower pricing before the AT&T deal goes through - so AT&T has to honor your 2 year T-Mobile contract.
I have a nicely priced old voice plan and would like to add the $10/month 250MB data plan... ;)
BTW - is this just an unlocked iPhone 4 that someone put on T-Mobile and is passing around this rumor? :D
If you are referring to the 200mb for $10/month for T-mobile. It only works for recent voice places, not grandfathered. I already tried several times. It's retarded :/

The new look gives the appearance of a physical desktop calendar with leather binding along the top edge, and like the iPad application shows remnants of torn-off pages for additional realism.
I'm seriously questioning my transition to the mac OS these days. It seems all anyone is interested in these days is the eye candy aspect.
Really, who gives a rat's ass about UI "realism" to their paper counterparts? I know it isn't a real leather calendar. Do designers think we're stupid?
Just make the damn iOS calendar synch with it so I can see my tasks on the iphone already.

Just ruined my freakin day. I was really hoping it would be an added benefit instead of a paid feature.

Don't believe it. The reports about it keeping the same design make sense.
The article says it was wrong about Ipad 2 having a memory slot.
3"7 funny..if they were going to make it bigger it would be a 4". I reckon if the other reports are true it should stay 3.5".
