Precisely - see my above post. As I see it, there is still a huge gap in the product line - perhaps not in price or specs, but in fundamental design philosophy. Anyone wanting an Apple desktop is forced to buy an AIO. For many people that's fine, they don't care, perhaps they even welcome it or prefer it, but for many others it's simply not an attractive option.

It's evil because it suggests that both Foxcomm and the titans of Silicon Valley have found another exploitable source of cheap, desperately poor labor 'just in case' something happens in China--say a major earthquake like that in Japan or moves to throw out China's aging dictatorship much like that now taking place in the Middle East. Standing by itself, you might call this move shrewd but evil.
It might suggest that to some ignorant persons out there, but Brazil has one of the world's most expensive workforces. Employers pay anywhere between 80% to 120% over salaries in taxes.
]But it's also stupid because it rewards Brazil for its aggressive mercantilist policies. Other countries, particularly in Latin America, are likely to take note and follow. In fact, they'll be foolish if they don't.

This only benefits the two parties: the local government/communities that get a boost in jobs and income, and the company that gets to save money. The big problem is that the best display technology for reading (eInk) does not work for video, currently (too slow refresh rate). I would love one device for video and books, but it comes back to the ease of reading / power issue.
True. There is also the fact that the e-paper technology is B&W only. Certainly Apple does not and will not want to step backward from the color screeens we enjoy now. But... why not two screens?
Correct me if I am misremembering technologies, but aren't color LCD screens, when "off" essentially transparent as the crystals are aligned a certain way (or maybe it's "on")? Either way, if there is a state where the color LCD can be transparent, why not put the e-paper screen behind the color LCD. The e-paper will have the benefit of higher resolution, contrast and lower battery consuption, the color LCD benefits of color.

Lets say they opened at 7:30. I arrived at 6:45 and there were two people there. There were about 10 by 7:30. So not very big line, but then again I think they only received about two of each model/color, except no 64GB models. ok thanks would you say wifi is the best or att&t wifi ??

I was able to install the firmware update without any problems - to an external USB boot drive noless :p
Is that possible? You're booting from an external and applying the firmware update to your mac right?

I'm not sure many would agree with you on that. Apple has always been a hardware company. Just because their software drives their hardware doesn't mean they are software focused. If they were primarily a software company, they would have gone the way of Microsoft and put out MacOS to run on any generic PC box. But we all know their take on that. Just to drive my point home, when was the last time Apple released a piece of software that people went nuts about and stood in lines for hours to get?

New Nanos are available at the 5th Ave. store in New York. I picked up the black 8GB this morning. Also, they are giving the educational discount on them. Perhaps they only disabled it online.
The Apple Store at Arden Fair in Sacramento, CA is supposed to start selling all the new iPod models today. If I had the money I'll spring for a 4 GB Silver nano. :D

A friend of mine has just received his MacBook back from Apple where they replaced the heatsink because of the issue. Hopefully this will solve it for others though!

Take note, that Austria is NOT among those countries (US, UK, Germany,...) who are supposed to get iPad's in April.

Yes. It fixed my week 21 Macbook that just got RSS two days ago. Even if your Macbook runs nicely now, it could get RSS in the future and when you call Apple all they're going to tell you is to install the firmware update.

I'd recommend resizing the image you're linking to... to something 1024px wide or smaller. If that's not convenient, then in this case I'd just go with the thumbnail which we can click on to see the bigger version. Otherwise many of us have to scroll sideways to see the entire image.

Seems pointless trying to do anything about it immediately. My PB serial number and battery serial numbers match the list, but I get:
"This computer serial number is not eligible for the Battery Exchange Program."
and
"This serial number is invalid or does not qualify for the program."
Looks like they need to fix the site.

You can do some amazing things with the iPhone 4 camera and photog apps. I'm considering ditching my point and shoot Canon, though zoom technology really isn't there yet for me to be able to do that, I must admit. More megapixels is fine, but let's see some implementation of a proper zoom.

These are really tempting... everybody talks about the GPU being disappointing, but coming from my 1 GHz 12" G4 I am sure this thing would still run WoW a whole heck of a lot better than what I have now!
But I still hold out hope for a reincarnation of the 12" form factor. I love the portability. Maybe it'll be an iMac to replace the aging desktop and keep the PowerBook for travelling...
