So do we keep waiting for updated Macbooks and Macbook Pro's or not?
Yeah I'm wondering the same.
Every manufacturer and their mother has announced Core 2 Duo portables, and most of them consumer models too. Sheesh, I mean there are Core 2 Duo tablets, if they can do that, Apple can do bloody MacBooks.

well if they copied nintendo the 3d would not need glasses. it also would be adjustable. meaning you could lower the 3d effect or outright turn it off. if there is a way to turn the effect off it would appeal to everyone. dont like it? shut the effect off. if you think about it todays 3d tvs are already outdated. nintendo figured out a way to show 3d without the use of glasses. its only a matter of time before its upscaled.

Poorly phrased comments lead to meaningless debate.
Comments about not wanting 3D in the ipad of course lead to the obvious response of those who disagree: "don't use it".
People expressing a desire that the ipad remain 3D free are probably hoping that 3D will be optional if it is added. I don't want 3D myself. But if others want 3D then I hope they get the option. But I do not want to pay extra for a feature I won't use. So if it comes to higher prices and I just "turn it off" then of course from my perspective I hope 3D is not implemented. But the better option would be the option of 3D and non-3D models.

Jumping on the wild guesses her ;)
Anyone thought about airpollution yet?! Lower CO2 emmisions from production? :P
Apple's earlier been critizised for not being "environmental enough" in their production right?
Anyway, just a thought, hehe
I think you might be on the right track. And I think there will be some announcement about further environmental goals for the company.
Maybe the thinner font is a symbol of "reduced impact" or footprint of the company as a whole.
Since the MacPro and XServe are by far the most power hungry Apples, maybe that's the real reason they were soft launched a week early?
Don't forget all those saved trips to Blockbuster now with movie rental on iTunes! I'm sure Apple will calculate average carbon emissions of a trip to Blockbuster. :)

Interestingly the formerly complete Mac family now has a new member in the form of the 24 iMac. Be interesting to see how 'complete' the Macbook family was now...

Who the hell wants to watch movie on an iPod. You can't even watch 2 hours of video on the current iPod...think...the battery like will be even WORSE with a larger screen?!?!?
I want a merom macbook pro...right now!!!! I might buy a freeken dell if i have to wait any longer...and I hate windows... I am hoping they will update it on the website tomorrow...tues. sept. 5th....not likely though since they will need a new logic boards because they soldered the core duo chips in...how stupid. Hopefully they will make some other updates since they have to re-do stuff anyway.
Who cares about a new nano also...the current one is fine

Switched to macs back in 2001 and while I love the OS I have had a continuous stream of hardware problems with all apple products I have bought:
iBook G3: logic board died and replaced 3 times
iMac G5: CPU got so hot the machine almost melted! So far I have had the logic board replaced 3 times.
MacBook: Random shutdown syndrome, faulty mouse and track pad, palm rest discoloration. Currently in for repair again!
iPod: hard disk and battery both died
EDIT: and don't get me started about the abomination that is the so called mighty mouse. The thing barely lasted a week!
Apple have really got to get there quality control sorted out. So what if the OS is great if the continual hardware faults mean you can't actually use the damn thing!
One cheesed off mac user.
Your experience is clearly not representative. My family and I have had 9 Macs, and no hardware problems ever. And large surveys, including those by PC Magazine and Consumer Reports, have shown that Apple desktops require significantly fewer repairs than any other brand out there.
Either you are trolling, or you are the most unlucky Mac user I have ever heard of...

I could have saved a little more money on my iMac. I did NEED it a month ago though. Merom is nice but Core Duo (Yonah) isn't devastated by it.

2) I don't completely understand this business of an external card being used. Can anyone help me out? So an external card was used in OS X, correct? Don't most OS X external cards that do work, work based off the driver that is shipped with OS X and not with a driver provided separately by the card vendor? Installing drivers in OS X is very rare. Does the unnamed external card use the same OS X driver used for the AE card, or does it use a different one? If it uses the same one, it's not clear that the driver in OS X is completely safe.
99.9999% of MacBook and MacBook Pro users don't have an external wireless card. The only reason why you would have an external card is either a meeting of a very clever salesman and an exceedingly stupid customer, who never realised that he doesn't need an external card, or a MacBook with a broken wireless card that is more expensive to repair than buying an external one. But then I think all MacBooks in existence should still be under warranty, so that shouldn't happen.
So why did they use an external wireless card? The only reasonable explanation is that whatever they did doesn't work with the built-in airport.
What I think that happened: They found a wireless card with USB connector that will make wireless connections even when it is not explicitely told to do so. Next, they prepared a Macintosh to allow remote login, which is dangerous if you are connected to any network. Remember, it was their Macintosh, and anyone can make their Macintosh as vulnerable as they like if they know how to. And these two things combined are enough.
No danger for anyone without an external wireless card, and no danger for anyone who hasn't messed around with their Macintosh and made it vulnerable.

I don't like the Microsoft bashing either...it's just something that gets to me. Microsoft bashing is a waste of energy. Who cares what company did what first, as a consumer I don't care about originality. Just give me something that works. Whatever company can implement the idea the best to provide a benefit to ME, gets my business. Just shut up and innovate (like Apple has been doing), the products will speak for themselves.
I agree totally. If anything all the bashing makes Apple (and its fans) seem insecure. Just deliver the goods and let the marketshare speak for itself. (Plus the mightier-than-thou attitude alienates PC users and makes them think twice about joining "the cult".)

I will leave your personally offensive remarks aside, suggesting instead that you get a transvestite, oops, Dell PC, dude. I am sure you can find a better desktop in their highly confusing webshop. As for Gisele Buendchen, she stays on our side, thanks a lot...
Just calling a spade a spade, Mr Lawyer. You made a comment that was a lie. The iMac is NOT the "most powerful desktop in the world". Not by a long shot.
If you don't want people to say you're full of crap then don't talk crap. Simple as.
Where else would you sit your iMac?
You know what I mean! :p
What do people buy if they want desktop performance? Apple currently offer NOTHING with desktop performance, it's either mobile or workstation.

Truer words were never written. But that's been true for a long time. Long before the iPad ever existed. They're masters at the bait and switch. They excel at mediocrity in customer service. They've perfected the art of hiring blowhard sales people who will tell you with conviction things I know aren't true before I even walk into the store. They use marketing techniques that border on the illegal, and reek with sleaziness. They build mega-superstores filled with 89% junk, and small pockets of quality products that you have to mine to find. And they strive for the unwarranted up sell and add-on.
Here's everything you need to know about Best Buy: When they were selling 6 foot HDMI cables for $70, claiming that it cost that much to produce them, I bought a 50 footer on-line for $75. And yes it's still working, five years later. Before anyone jumps on Monster for the overpricing, my on-line distributor told me at the time that he could buy the same Monster cable that BB was selling at $70 for $24. Still too much, for sure. But assuming that BB gets even better volume pricing than him, they were selling it for at least a 200% markup.
Rant complete. I feel better now... :D
So, why do you go there.
Must have been there 4-5 times over the last 10 years. The place "feels" creepy. The sales personnel rarely knows what they are talking about and their pricing is usually too high.
They feel like the old car dealer ships, where from the moment you come in the start licking their chops:-)
Good thing we have online shopping!

jeez, 8 whole mega pixels??? Wow fruit, welcome to you sure are being generous here. My android phone has 8mp and it came a full year ago... The pictures it takes are pretty sweet compared to my friends i(paidtomuch)phone4. I'm not trying to bash anyone but I see a lot of fruit boys on here saying they are OK with whatever fruity says. Ya'll really need to revolt or something because that's not right. I guess once the specs are finalized, we will see a 10+ mega pixel camera on either android or windows phone? I have no idea..
I will suggest that perhaps a physical side camera button like the Windows phone has for taking pictures would great because with a touchscreen it is hard to tell if you took a picture in a noisy environment when you can hear the click.
That is all.
PCP
As there are robot boys saying they are OK with whatever the "roboty" says.
That is all.
