Buy a $1700 Dualie, and sell it for $1000 when the great leap forward happens.
I can't deny that I think a lot of people who post here want speed for speed's sake, not because they need it.
I run a HEAVY load of services (Apache, TomCat, MySQL, a lot of cron, etc.) on my machine at all times, iTunes at all times, many terminal sessions, several browsers, BBEdit, CodeWarrior, Excel, Mail, and often have DreamWeaver, Photoshop, Thoth, Flash, and several others open, and I seldom have slowdowns. I don't render anything, and I respect the complaints of people doing heavy rendering.
If you're are noticing slowdowns, max your RAM, and get a RAID card. If you're peaking both processors with 2GB of RAM, and an U160 SCSI, or ATA 133 RAID, complain, otherwise, you don't really have a right to!

Going through all the Free TV Show episodes I haven't yet seen and redownloading them in 640x480.
I love every bit of this new iTunes... well except for the annoying fact that all the store views now scroll horizontally.

I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't want any other news than the iPad until the iPad is released.
My guess is New MBP's won't be released until atleast a week or two after the iPad.
I'm totally with you. Apple is launching a totally new product line. This is very important for them. If you look at the main page at Apple.com you see the iPad. Apple doesn't want any distractions from that until after the iPad launches.
So I guess the earliest would be April 13.
Here is another thought. The back-to-school promotions usually start at the end of May. By then the first wave of iPad excitement could be waning. Perhaps the $199 credit you get for buying a laptop this summer could be applied to the purhase of an iPad. Buy a laptop and get an iPad for just $300. Not a bad deal.
The other thing to consider is that Intel is rumored to be brining out a lower power version of Arrandale sometime in the middle of this year. Maybe it is better to wait for that one?

The G5 cases were/are absolutely giant -- to accommodate the massive amount of airflow the G5 chip needed. With this Intel chip running much cooler, it shouldn't require the need of a giant case with huge heat sinks.

Despite the picture of a Power Mac-like casing on the banner, I still think that the Mac Pro will have a different structure than the Power Macs.
I mean, developers will still have to use Power Macs to test the PowerPC versions of their software, right? So why not throw a tool that developers will still be using up there?
Plus, of the four Macs that already have Intel processors, the two that kept their old names (iMac, Mac mini) have the same (or basically the same) casing, while the two that now have different names (MacBook Pro, MacBook) have different cases (the Pro does look a lot like the PowerBook, but it has many design changes).

However, I can't agree that the Bible is "neutral" or relative in that it can correctly be interpreted in any way someone chooses. The Bible is clear in it's express purpose as God's revelation of himself to mankind. The Bible is judged and interpreted against itself using the literary and textual tools of interpretation that we have available to us.
Of course not any interpretation is valid; however, the Bible is very complex and contradicts itself in places. There is no set interpretation that can said to be right, rather a spectrum that can be justified. "Clear" is not a word I would use.
Like all communication it can only be correctly interpreted in light of the intended meaning of it's original author. This is where faith comes into the process. Followers of Christ hold to the belief that it is God's inspired and inerrant word. The living God is it's author and he inspired men to write within their own historical and literary context to specific audiences at a specific time. All of these contexts become clues that help guide us to His intended meaning.
This is obviously where we part ways. For me the Bible is the product of man. Nothing more.
God's word calls us to "love one another" and to be servant leaders in bearing one another's burdens. Westboro seeks to judge, spread hate, and cause dissension. Sure they quote scripture and hide behind an illusion of faith, but they take verses out of context and aren't living out God's commands.
However, you are still using one interpretation that you have chosen. There is no way to know if you are right. I agree that WBC are at the extreme end, but the overall message of the Bible doesn't seem to be clear. Just look at the issue of homosexuality- many "normal" (you know what I mean!) Christians find homosexuality difficult to justify, whilst others have no issue with it. The Bible states many times how "wrong" homosexuality is but other passages suggest otherwise. Both interpretations seem to be possible without stretching the facts.
So whilst it may be possible to say the WBC aren't living out God's commands, it's not possible to say whether the Christian that is uncomfortable homosexuals is living out God's commands or not. I would hope God would have no issue with homosexuality, but that hope is based upon an extrinsic sense of morality.

Ultimate usage of my Apple stuff: iPad as excellent calculator during making my homework for math, in a perfect viewing angle thanks the Apple iPad case (I own since today, excellent case). MBP used as music player for the relaxing during making homework thanks to iTunes. iPhone used as camera. Love my Apple stuff!

people may think this is bad, but actually it's a perfect plan make it the only consumer tablet that anyone sees anywhere and kids make up a huge chunk of what parents purchase. They'll be saying iPad and Apple before Dadda and Mamma

The current camera on the iPhone 4 is stellar IMO and many others... an equal 8MP camera would be even better....
Opinions are good things huh....
my iphone produces some ok photos but also produces a large volume of absolute shite ones.
The higher mp may not mean muhc, but hopefully they will be improving the optics/sensor while at it. The nokia n8 may be a fugly symbian^3 abomination, but the sensor combined with the carl zeiss optics produces some really nice photos, even in low light.
You can also use the hdmi out for flipping throuhg photos, and not just the fakin stupid slideshow like the hdmi adapter on the iphone4
Yeah, bring on Carl Zeiss. Those lenses work majic even on dedicated cams.

Is it me, or is the internals of the Mac Pro not as sexy as the internals of the PowerMac G5? It just doesn't feel the same.

I don't recall massive outcry from the devs on those other platforms. Why do you think that is?
On reason might be because when was the last time a gaming console had 100K games for it?? I don't think any of them have. Could be wrong thou.
You have far more developers for the iPhone platform then you do for the games thus we hear about it more. I would also speculate that now that we live in an age of instant communication, we don't have to wait it to make the paper or trade magazine we are hearing about it much sooner and more often.

As much as I love them, all of Apple's designs are getting old. The Macbook (nee iBook) has looked the same (minus a few paint jobs) for over 5 years; the current iMac design harkens back to the eMac (yes, I know, its flatter, what an innovation...wheee), which in turn was highly derivative of the original iMac. The MacBook Pro is just an AluPB, which in turn was merely a revision of the original Titanium G4. Now, the "new" iPod nano is nothing more than a iPod mini that went on a diet, and the full iPod, although much sleeker than its predecessors, is still essentially the same design as the iPod that came out in 2001. And the story goes on: the Mac Pro, a warmed over PowerMac G5; the Airport/Airport extreme, essentially unchanged since its release; the Airport Express, a power adapter with flashing lights; the iSight, unchanged since its release; the Mighty Mouse, same design as the Apple Pro Mouse, etc. Essentially, the only new designs in the last three years have been: the Mac mini, the iPod shuffle, and the Cinema Displays, none of which could be considered to be attention-getters. Even the new, unreleased "iTV" is copying the Mac mini design. Not too impressive for a company which claims high design as a main benefit. Where is the new cube? the iMac (& G4)? the tiBook? There is nothing fresh or innovative about their current lineup, nothing exciting or innovative.Instead, its all inoffensively sterile, to my eyes; walking into an Apple store has become similar to walking into IKEA, nothing unexpected, just clean lines. It's like they've become artistically constipated. Or is this just what we get for Apple's new push on "competitive prices"?
In my opinion, its time for some fresh blood, someone with a new vision. And yes, I'm looking squarely at you, Steve and Jonathan. I want to be excited again, and not just by the "guts" of the computer. I, for one, miss the Macworlds of 5 years ago...
You do make a couple of good points here. I still think the neatest looking Apple product ever was the iMac G4. That was really different from anything that was ever seen before.
Greed on Apple's part might be the reason. I'm sure they will wait a few months after everyone has bought the 4GB in color, then announce 8GB iPod Nanos in color.
They seem to have taken the EXACT same path with regards to color choice as they did with the iMac G3 line a few years back. The base model is only available in one color, middle model has all the color choice (including the base color) and the top of the line is only available in one color that is not available at any other price point. If anybody remembers the iMac, iMac DV and iMac SE they will know EXACTLY what I am talking about.

wrong ... we grew up with Woodstock
Well that hardly guarantees you'd be fun to hang around with now. :p
And if repetitive lyrics aren't your thing, what about Alvin Lee singing "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock? :D

How are they coming up with the number of (gun) crimes committed by blacks? That is an important question because it is probably based on convictions. A higher percentage of blacks are arrested for crimes, which is compounded by a system (at least here) that convicts blacks at a higher rate. So, there may be a statistically disproportionate number of crimes committed by blacks, but if the system concentrates that trend, the statistics are going to seem worse than reality.
Are you saying that white people are just as likely to commit gun crime, but black people are more likely to get charged (no pun) with it?

The local BB was listing all varieties in stock online a few hours ago. I was 3rd inline as the doors opened.
The dude says "We have NO iPad(2)s." - they have been showing iPad(1) on hand, and seem to have some around still at $100 off.
I consider this just folly, and borderline 'bait-and-switch'.
I wonder how many other stores have ZERO stock, especially after the rumor about conflict with Apple about stock being held back.
It doesn't really matter to me, my Apple online order is scheduled for delivery 10 days from now. I just wanted to see if there would be a line (I got inline about 5 min prior to doors opening) and what sort of inventory was on hand.
Now I know.

All gloves are off. Apple has been anticipating this moment for a long time, waiting for Microsoft got in the game to raise the stakes. There's a reason Apple hasn't updated the iPod in so long; they didn't want to tip their hand to Microsoft. As soon as Zune hits the market, Apple will counter with iPod 2.0:
-large screen covering the full face
-touch technology that's activated as you hover your fingers over it
-new Nvidea-powered multimedia chip capable of doing video and 3D
-classic Nintendo games
-eBook reader
-wireless capabilities (I'm not sold on the usefulness of this yet)

GREED and BLACKMAIL I'm sure our government is gonna love this one. This is what America was built on kill the little guys and choke out all competition. Walmart couldn't compete in the MP3 market all they know about is trying to lower prices even if they loose money on something they have a million other products that will make money.
